University and higher education level courses for healthcare professional workers

Formative aims

The aim of the module is to reach healthcare professionals (practitioners, clinicians, apprenticeship supervisors) who both work at universities or other institutions of higher education and participate in the education of future medical staff, as well as academics and encourage them to modify curricula. The modification refers to the inclusion in the education system the basics of narrative medicine, parents’ pedagogy and ICF system. Goal is to be achieved through the presentation to those responsible for the curriculum benefits from the implementation of the proposed methods.

Titles of the chapters with a brief summary

Chapter 1.
Medicine is something more than the treatment.

In this module are presented the benefits of a subjective approach to the patient and the threat of authoritarian attitudes often used by health care professionals. There is also described the base of medical humanities and indicated little change in the teaching of students, which can have very large effects in this area.

Chapter 2.
Medical treatment can be something more than contact between healthcare worker and a patient.

In this chapter the author indicated often underestimated special connection between members of the family and their potential role in the therapeutic process. Particular attention was paid to the youngest patients and the benefits than can bring the inclusion of their parents in the treatment.

Chapter 3.
ICF – classification of functioning, not classification of people.

In this Chapter were presented the benefits of using ICF system and attention was drawn to the subjective approach to people with disabilities. At the same time the author made the connections of the ICF system with narrative medicine and parents’ pedagogy in order to create a uniform system of treatment of the patient as a full participant in the therapeutic process.
